Bangkok Post Foundation

The Bangkok Post newspaper celebrates its 77th anniversary this year. But its role is not confined to news reporting. It aims to give back to Thai society. It has done this since 1982 through the Bangkok Post Foundation.

Since 1982, the Bangkok Post Foundation has provided education scholarships for thousands of needy Thai students across the country. Students receiving foundation support are ranging from primary to university levels. They also help restore schools affected by natural disasters and provide education facilities for disadvantaged rural schools

There are no obligations placed on students who receive their support until they graduate. Scholarship is granted on a need basis. Many of the students are from broken homes, orphans, and all are in dire financial need. The only criteria for scholarships are a dedication to study and learn.

Education is very important in life. The foundation hopes that the scholarship recipients will contribute back in some way to assisting their communities, helping those who are still in need, and broader society.

A SUCCESS

Warin Yuyangate, a humble farmer’s daughter from Phitsanulok province received Bangkok Post Foundation education support since her primary level until graduation. She is now a doctor of medication and is also head of neurosurgery team of Prapudtachinaraj Hospital , Phitsanulok province.

“The aim of the Foundation is good. It gives an opportunity to poor people who may wish to help society. It is also much more satisfying to cure poor people using the 30-baht health scheme rather than rich people” said Dr. Warin.
