Current president Angelo Gaja has been called “the undisputed king of Barbaresco” and his Barbaresco wine is considered a status symbol on par with Chateau Lafite- Rothchild. This particular bottle, with the coveted DOCG designation, is almost 40 years old, yet as oenophiles can see from the photo, the ullage/level for such a vintage is quite exceptional!
Sotheby’s Hong Kong Spring Sale Auction on April 24, 2022 had a Multi-million US$ “Finest and Rarest Wines” auction. This particular vintage had a lot of 6 (Lot 9420) sold for 12,400 HKD or about 54,000 THB/1,600 USD, including Sotheby’s Buyers Premium, but exclusive of any shipping charges out of HK or Import taxes.
